Welcome to the Seoul Historiography Institute.

The Seoul Historiography Institute is an organization under the Seoul Metropolitan Government that was established to collect, research and compile of historical materials about Seoul. It was established in 2015, inheriting the administrative and research functions of The City History Compilation Committee of Seoul, which was organized in 1949.

The Seoul Historiography Institute has striven to investigate various types of data on the history and culture of Seoul, and to inform the historical significance and cultural value of Seoul to the public. It also has served as a bridge deliver historical knowledge between professional researchers and general public through holding Seoul history academic conferences, operating lectures and field trips. The website of the Seoul Historiography Institute provides the Seoul History DB, which allows general public to easily and conveniently search for the materials we have collected and published.

There is a growing interest in history and culture of Seoul inside and outside Korea. The Seoul Historiography Institute will devote its best to discover the value of Seoul history and inform it to many people.
